Abstract :
Theoretical approach: Regarding the popularity of populist communication style that is performed by various actors of political communication, including politicians, influencers, media, etc., in Lithuania, that could be stated that media 9especially, commercial) is using the style of populist communication, mostly because of the search for popularity. Populist communication style in media could be discussed through the usage of demagogy, or in other words - the dramatization of the current political situation. One of the characteristics of political populism communication style is the imprecise, unclear, and foggy (re) presentation of political ideology, actions of politicians or officials. The main tools that are mostly used in media for populist political communication are those related to rhetoric techniques such as simplification, criticism over political mainstream, sometimes applying bullying or name-calling, etc. Discussing the style of populist communication scholars state that populists in their political communication often are “real masters of social mascaraed and jugglers of political circus” perfectly using clownery and show elements; and these statements could be used to describe the populist political communication performed by media in presentation of political events or political actors in search for audience’s attention, popularity, etc. Of course, this notion is mostly related to the concept, proposed by M. Edelman - “spectacle society.
Research methodology, methods: Analysis of messages on local and international political news in internet TV – LasivÄ—s TV: a qualitative and quantitative content analysis of messages (texts and visuals); the main research aim - to find out the main narratives and forms of bullying and cynicism in messages.
