Abstract :

The widespread adoption of mobile technology in higher education has brought with it ample opportunities for innovative, technology enhanced teaching practices to support student learning and academic attainment. This session will describe a structured faculty professional development program in an EMI institution in the Middle East, aimed at helping faculty take full advantage of the affordances of mobile technology to enhance their teaching practices and provide an innovative learning environment for their ESL students. Research results will be presented showing how faculty involvement in a series of critical discussion and reflective activities and their active involvement in classroom-based research projects using the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) framework have led to innovative teaching practices and ultimately a transformation of student learning.
