Abstract :

Research has shown that CLIL is a great ally in L2 learning and a great way to hold our students' interest, especially if learners are exposed to academic content that is relevant to their professional interests and needs. In this presentation, we will be describing the added value of CLIL at an American university that has the mission to educate professionals to advance understanding, promote peace in pursuit of a fair world (context). We will be addressing the characteristics of the educational setting as well as the programmatic and organizational synergies between the language department and partnered academic disciplines at this institution of higher learning. We will be focusing on the benefits of CLIL to maximize learners' language experience by appealing to their professional and academic interests in different contexts (development, security, public administration, education, translation and interpretation, and language education)
