We focused on exploring how to use digital technology, particularly, social media web tools 2.0, to enhance EFL novice teachers' interaction and communication at multicultural schools in the digital era. Also, implications of teaching practice and teachers' development programs have been also discussed.
With an increasing number of international schools and multilingual early childhood centres funded in the Czech Republic in recent years, traditional EFL teaching methods cannot satisfy students’ needs. This research paper aims to develop an understanding of how social media technologies, such as Web 2.0 technology, can be used to facilitate collaboration and communication among novice EFL teachers in multicultural classrooms. Participants involved in this project were novice K-12 English teachers in Prague and the South Moravian Region in the Czech Republic. The study used a mixed research method to investigate novice EFL teachers’ awareness and perceptions of using social media tools and Web 2.0 technology in the current educational policy system in the country. The results confirmed differing perspectives about the value of using social media tools and Web 2.0 technology for collaboration and communication between colleagues and stakeholders in a broader community. Participants’ perceptions of influential factors in adopting social media tools are also discussed in the study.
